£64 per person (children minimum age 10 yrs to 16yrs must be accompanied by an adult) Duration 5 hrs includes Xtreme route, lunch and Mine Tour. Wet weather clothing, boots and gloves are advised.
Chose from either a miner’s lunch including a hot or cold drink, soup and a pie. Or a rivers lunch including a hot or cold drink and a panini. Enjoy the fully guided Mine Tour - lasting 1hr 30min where you’ll head inside the massive caverns inside the iconic Lake District mountain, Fleetwith Pike then prepare yourself for the Via Ferrata Classic lasting approximately 3 hrs. Our fully-qualified staff will get you kitted up ready for the next stage of your unique Honister experience.
In between trips you’ll have time to explore our Visitor Centre and even watch our factory men transforming huge slabs into the best slate products in the world. You can pick up a slate gift in our shop, or enjoy a tea or coffee at one of the most scenic cafes in the whole of the Lake District.
Mine Tour: Our mine tours are around 90 minutes long and packed full of fun. Our knowledgeable guides will take you deep underground to explore the old working mines where children as young as 10 used to blast slate from the caverns to use on such buildings as Buckingham palace and St. Paul’s cathedral.
Via Ferrata Xtreme: was introduced at Honister in 2012 to bring a much more challenging (and some say scary) Via Ferrata experience. You do need to be reasonably fit and healthy for the Xtreme.
Much more mountain: edge exposure, vertical climbs, cliff edge ladders, plus a Burma Bridge & Cargo Net crossing.
Scramble up the huge Cargo Net to reach the summit of Fleetwith Pike and one of the finest views the Lake District has to offer. Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater, perfectly framed by Alfred Wainwright`s favourite Fells, roll out before your very eyes. (Weather dependent)
